Today I went to Sam's Club and purchased 10 items. I know this because upon exiting the store the door security armed with highlighter counted 10 and there were only 9 items on the receipt. Non-issue, I'll just go pay for the item. Prior to that occurring this is what happened:
Door security Glenda says, "That's okay you can just take it. We are allowed to let a certain amount go through." I am sure my mouth dropped open. The unaccounted for item was an $11.34, 8-can package of Progresso soup. Did she just say what I think she said? Awesome did I just get lucky!! Actually that wasn't the thought I had. When I brought it to her attention that I had no intention of leaving without paying for the item she then informed me if I did pay for it she would have to write up my cashier for missing the item.
I could not believe what I was hearing.
I went to Customer Service paid for the item and asked to speak with the manager. Guess what? The manager says that Glenda is correct. Sam's feels it is an inconvience for their customers to have to pay for an item that was missed in the checkout.
I shared with the manager first off I thought that thinking is CRAZY! I am sure they are losing plenty of money on the stuff that they don't catch at the door. Which by the way affects the price of the paying customers' products.
I also mentioned that I could see the offer being made to someone that was insistant on making a scene or being ugly to the employees, but I was floored it was the first thing out of Glenda's mouth when she caught the error.
I still cannot believe this practice....insane!!
