This is the Man I love ~

Will miss Azle PD Lt. Greg Arrington

Dear Editor:

As I read the Azle News Sept. 4 issue, I was more disappointed than I have ever been while reading a newspaper. There are a lot of tragic events that newspapers report, but on a local level, the retirement of Azle police lieutenant Greg Arrington tops most.

Arrington has been one of the most amazing public servants the Azle community has ever been blessed with. He is honorable, dedicated, and a great friend to the youth. When I was a young teen at Azle High School, I met him and within an instant, he became a role model and, more importantly, a mentor for me.

His passion for youth is something that Azle will find difficult to match and nearly impossible to beat. His service to this community is a debt we can never repay. He has made an impact on the lives of so many, and was able to convince young people that he was on their side – something that is rare in a police officer. (An officer being on the youth’s side is not rare, but one that can get the youth to believe that, now that is rare.)

Through programs like HADIT, DARE, SWEAT, Shattered Dreams, and simply through his passion, this man has affected many lives.

On behalf of this community, I would like to publicly thank Lt. Arrington. The impact of his efforts in Azle is like a rock being thrown into a giant lake: the ripples grow larger and larger, and last forever.

I wish the leaders of this community would do whatever it takes to keep him around. On a personal note, Lt. Arrington has played a major role in who I am today and what I have become. Through mentors and role models like Lt. Greg Arrington, I have set my life on track to make a difference and I have been successful in life due to their influence.

I am sorry to see Greg Arrington leave, but I wish him the best with this new chapter in his life. And for everything he has done, I thank him.

Travis J. Reed
