Two period films in one day. Another good one; although, I did like The Other Boleyn Sister best.
Holy cow! Apparently, in the 16th - 18th centuries daughters of the family were really a bargaining chip for status and wealth. Not that they had anything to do with the decision of marriage. It was all based on greed for status and wealth made by the family. Joy, honor, contentment and true love be damned.
Crap what a miserable existence. Human breeders. Funny that no matter how many children were born the goal of a marriage was the creation of an heir (a son). That is an actual expectation of this 'contract'.
Oh and by the way, the bastard children don't count, only the ones you have with your spouse. Go figure!

I liked both movies. You should read 'Sex With Kings' there are so many intresting facts in that book. It was so much better to be the other woman.
